10 Year Anniversary for MovingSchool
During the last10 years more than 6.000 children have been involved with MovingSchool.
It is now 10 years ago since we opened the first school class on the bank of the Tiracol River in North Goa with Manisha Kulkarni as the teacher.
We have managed to create and develop a local NGO which has been responsible for – and has been running the daily administration of the schools in Goa with much effort and dedication.
In 2009 there were as many as 11 school classes and over 300 children who benefited from the educational programs that MovingSchool provided. In 2010 we opened an IT center in Pernem where our oldest children are acquiring knowledge and experience about computers and internet. Connecting to the entire world is a extraordinary and expansive experience for them. This was only possible with the support provided from Rotary; 4 clubs in Horsens, a club in Germany, an Indian club in Mapusa as well as Rotary International.
MovingSchool has brought a much needed focus to a local problem in Goa and today is an esteemed NGO. Now the state administration of Goa is also supporting the project with food and small funding which contributes to help run the schools. Today the local Goan government is taking a much larger responsibility for these forgotten children who we brought to their attention 10 years ago.
Due to this new involved government policy we closed 3 schools and therefore we only have 8 operating schools left. This is a very positive outcome, and we are very happy to hand over the operation of the schools to the Goan government.
Now we are seeking new opportunities to use our expertise to help more Indian children, and we have located a similar situation in Gujarat. Our plan for 2011 is to start a co-operation with a local NGO which is working with poor fishermen families there. These families are facing the same problem that the sand digging immigrant workers had with the lack of educational of possibilities for their children before MovingSchool opened in Goa 10 years ago.
I want to convey my heartfelt thanks for your support to the MovingSchool project during the last 10 years.
Best regards,
Anders Linnet
